The other day I saw a sign that said:
Thus I derived the question, “Do you have to be baptized to be saved.” The answer is absolutely not. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that it is by grace alone through faith that we are saved. It is not works of any kind. To be saved we must have “faith alone” in our “Lord Jesus Christ alone.” It is not walking an aisle or being baptized. If you add any of these things to it then it ceases to be “faith alone.”
I feel the people who put the sign up believe what it says. The sad thing is they are wrong and have most likely been taught wrong Bible Doctrine all of their lives. The truth is we can not do enough good works to get us in Heaven. Jesus did all the work for us when He hung on the Cross. He took all men’s sins past, present and future on Himself and paid our sin debt. So the issue is not works whether it be walking an aisle, being baptized or doing good deeds. The issue is faith. Jesus teaches us that He is the only way to the Father and no one comes to the Father except through Him. So the answer to the question is: salvation is faith alone in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ alone. Baptism is a public declaration of our obedience to God our Father. But we don’t have to be baptized to have salvation. It is sad that so many people will read the sign and believe it. We have to be careful what we post anywhere whether on a sign or online. We are responsible if we give wrong information.
Thanks for stopping by.
