Coquina Beach

DSC_0193    One of my favorite places to go and relax.  The water is so beautiful and you can wade out a pretty long way before it gets deep.  I don’t put my head under water; coward?  Maybe.

Your Responsibility and Their Choice

DSC_0264     This post has absolutely nothing to do with chickens but since I haven’t shown you any pictures of my girls I thought I would share this one.  I have six and hope to get six more soon; just as soon as I feel all the cold weather is behind us.  Even though I will keep the babies in a warm brooder I like for the weather to be nice as well.

One month ago today I had a heart attack and was in the hospital for a lengthy stay.  I’m home now and slowly but surely getting back to my normal self.  While down and not out it gave me a lot of time to think about a lot of things; as you can imagine.  I sit at my dinning room table and look out the big window at a wonderful view of the back yard and the wild birds that we feed.  Yesterday we had a visit from a Painted Bunting!  What a beautiful creature; so bright and cheerful!  It made me think of how God makes so many magnificent things.  How could anyone not believe in Him?  How could anyone not teach their children and grandchildren about God and His mighty love?  But sadly they don’t.

They say “We want to let him/her make their own choice.”  Wrong!  What choice?  If you don’t teach them about God what choice can they make?  What do they have to choose from?  You let them watch television and use their ipads and flood their minds with worldly concepts but you say no to God and His principles and virtues.  Then we wonder why our kids are killing each other.  Boys shooting girls because they said they didn’t want to be their girlfriends or killing other kids because they didn’t do as they wanted them to do.  People setting bombs and harming or killing complete strangers just for the heck of it.  Where did this start and where will it stop?

I fully believe it all started when we took prayer out of school.  When I was in school (and granted that was years ago ) we started every day with a verse from the Bible, the Lord’s prayer and Pledge of Alliance.  If one did not want to say the prayer they didn’t have to but they had to be quiet what the others participated.  Back then we respected out teachers and elders.  Back then you did not hear of all this kids killing kids.  But along came someone who said “We should not have prayer or talk about God in our schools.” So they stopped the prayers and devotionals and said “We don’t need You in our schools God.”

Since then we have been like a snowball rolling down hill!  Our world is getting worse and more evil it seems by the day.  Where does it stop?  I’ll tell you where.  In the home!!  Parents and grandparents can’t say we’ll let him or her make a choice and then not give them role models to choose from.  Oh it’s easy to blame television and computer games and I can see why.  That’s all you are giving your children to choose from. Violence, disregard for human life (we are killing babies by the thousands but that is fodder for another post) that is the choices we are giving them.

Absolutely they should have a choice.  God gives us the choice to choose Him or the world.  But if we don’t teach our children God’s principles and virtues all they have is the world view (and we know the devil controls the world ) to choose from.  Yes it is their choice but it is your responsibility.

Yes I am on my podium but I feel this is an epidemic we need to deal with.  God tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 what we need to do so He will heal our land.  And you must agree our land needs healing.

Thank you for stopping by please come back soon.  God bless.

SERENITY

008     I guess we all have our on definition of what serene means to us.  To me sitting quietly on a beach and watching the waves wash ashore is the epitome of serenity.  But there are many other things that bring me peace and joy.  I love sitting on my back porch and watching the wild birds.

And working in my garden which by the way is coming along great so far.  All most all of the radishes I transplanted last week took and that makes me so happy.  It was an experiment.  I was not sure if one could transplant radishes but I knew I had to thin them out and I just can’t stand to throw away any plant.  So now I know.  And the two new rows I planted are all peeping out of the ground.  One row is the same as the others that are almost ready to gather, I got one this morning, and the other row are white radishes which I have never grew or even eaten but I will now.

And every thing else is coming along.  We had mustard for dinner one day last week and could gather more now but I’ll wait a few days and see if my sister-in-law wants some when she comes to our family Christmas party this weekend.  The collards are also ready and I plan to have some for Christmas dinner along with the ham and other fixings (fixings is a good old southern word for what else one might cook.)

And as you can see the lettuce is almost ready to gather some for a nice salad but I’ll give it a couple more days.  We’re eating out tonight but my husband doesn’t know it let.  I’m just too busy to cook.

DSC_0313

I won’t bore you with photos of all the other vegetables but I do have a few tomatoes and one bell pepper.  I hope the critters don’t get my pepper again.  They’ve stolen the last two before they were big enough for me to pick.  I’ve put Cayenne pepper powder on them to deter the unwelcome guest.  We’ll see if that works.

Thank you for stopping by please come by soon and God bless.

TAKE A HIKE

DSC_0169

I love to walk.  One year, I believe it was 2004, I had like eight surgeries on my left leg.  We won’t go in to details but I can tell you that year I couldn’t walk more than I could.  It is a terrible feeling to not be able to do the things you want to do.  Oh you see them around you and you know what is needed but you are unable to provide that need.  Sometimes I would stay thirsty because I hated to ask others to get me a drink.  I’ve always been sort of independent.  Now I’m not sure if that is a good thing or bad, I suppose it can be both depending on the situation.  Thus I walk all the time.  I do walks to raise money to fight cancer and raise money for the YMCA and what have you.  However, there are a few causes I won’t walk for but there is no need to name them here.  I feel walking is a wonderful gift from God.

A test for you. Take a day and don’t do any walking.  If you have to use the bathroom just hobble to it.  Then you can relate to the person who can’t walk.

I can assure you that walking isn’t usually crowded.  Why?  I have no idea because it is great exercise and if you hike in parks and what- have – you it is wonderful.  You see nature in its best possible way.   And it is a great time to talk to God and thank Him for all His blessings and especially for the ability to walk.

DSC_0043

Get out there and try it.  Even if you just walk around your block or down the street.  Heck for that matter even if you just walk down your drive or around in your yard.  I’ve walked in my yard and seen some great things.  Of course when I walk in my yard I always find work that I need to do.

It doesn’t even have to be a beautiful sunny day because there is beauty in the rain.  Now you know I don’t mean storming but a fine mist or slow rain makes the stroll even more interesting.  There is just something refreshing about the mist kissing your cheeks

Thank you for stopping by and please come again soon.  If I’m not here I’m probably out walking somewhere or working in my yard.

God bless.

WITHOUT A DROP TO DRINK

To paraphrase Samuel Taylor Coleridge

DSC_0090

I haven’t posted lately because I don’t go on my computer when it is thundering and lightning.  Foolish … maybe, because I have a circuit breaker but I’m rather be cautious than have lightning strike my machine.   We have had our share of storms in the last few days.  That is a good thing since our water table is low.  There is a restriction on what days one can water their gardens and lawns even if you have a private well.  I usually don’t concern myself with such cares because I know God will give us what we need when we need it.  The recent rains have helped the shortage a lot.

I won’t complain because I love everything about Florida; bugs, storms and all.  When I was a child I was fortunate enough to go fishing with my Dad and brothers to Apalachee Bay thus began my interest in this state.  Then we vacationed a couple of times in Naples and I was definitely hooked.  I made a goal and told my parents “When I get grown I’m going to live in Florida.”  Of course as typical parents go they didn’t take me serious.  But here I am today fulfilling that goal.

DSC_0130 fixed

We have the Gulf of Mexico on one side and if that is too tame for you we have the Atlantic Ocean on the other.  Both sides have their plus and minuses.  There is absolutely nothing that compares to the smell of salt water and walking along a sugar-sand beach with a tropical breeze ruffling your hair and the sun kissing your face.  I will definitely visit other states and enjoy what they have to offer but I will always return to my wonderful piece of Florida.  I hope you can come to visit and see what I’m talking about but be warned once you get the sand between your toes you will want to keep returning.

Thank you for stopping by and please come back soon.

God bless.

LOOK UP

DSC_0248

The last few weeks our country has seen some unhappy times.  But just as we share our joys and successes we share our heartbreak and sorrows.  Yes, we’ve had different opinions on some things that happened here but thank God we are still free to voice those opinions.  The citizens, both men and women, who gave their lives so we can live free would not be proud of how we have abused what they paid the ultimate price for us to enjoy.  Yes my heart grieves for those Officers in Dallas and I pray for those families.  I pray for all our officers and first responders everywhere.  I invite you to pray with me.  And while we are at it  look up; our flag still waves and we can choose how and where we worship. This is still the best country in the world to live in. Let’s honor our fallen heroes by treating each other with respect no matter what color our skin.  Though we may not agree with their opinions we should respect their rights to voice those opinions but absolutely without violence.  If we all stand together and do what 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us to do God will hear our cries and heal our land.  Don’t say “Well that’s Old Testament stuff.”  God never changes He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  What He promised in the Old Testament He will do today.  No politician can straighten out this country.  What we need is for Christians to stand up for God’s principles and virtues. If we do God will stand beside us and the United States will once again be the great country it once was.  Look up!  GOD BLESS AMERICA!

PROVIDENCE CANYON GEORGIA

DSC_0197

A few years back my husband and I visited this canyon in North Georgia.  It is a perfect example of the beauty of God’s work.  It has great hiking trails and was not crowded.  As a matter of fact we only saw two other people the whole time we were there.  It isn’t highly advertised so few people know about it, I guess.

Our word today is Admiration and I have to say I admire our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ more than anything or anybody.  Man can never compare to the work of His hands from the tiniest flower to the huge mountains and deep valleys.  He was total Man and total God and though he was tempted far beyond what we will ever be He never sinned.  He Who knew no sins took on all sins so we can be saved.  When I see the gorgeous work He does here it makes me wonder how beautiful Heaven must be.

So when you see a pretty flower or magnificent sunset please stop and realize you are looking at God’s work and take a minute to thank Him for it and all He does.  Don’t let His love and beauty pass you by without acknowledging it.

Thank you for stopping by and please come back soon.  In the meantime enjoy what God has given us to enjoy.

I WEAR A CROSS

FootstepsCross 001

I wear a cross on a chain around my neck.  It isn’t meant to bring me good luck or protect me from anything. It is there as a reminder of the price my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ paid for my salvation.  It reminds me of the footsteps He took  on His was to be crucified.  He knew the pain He would suffer and worse than physical pain the anguish He would suffer from being separated from our Father for even a second.  He took that walk and the Cross as a substitute for me.  He paid my sin debt in full.  But not only mine but all sins past, present and future.  He knew no sin yet He became sin so I would not have to.  Now sin is not the issue; faith is the issue “Faith alone in our Lord Jesus Christ alone.”

Yes, I wear a cross on a chain around my neck but not for luck.  Every time I touch that cross I think of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His free gift of salvation.  He gave His all so we will not have to.  When you see a cross please remember the price He paid.  If you have not accepted His free gift please think about it, pray and ask God to accept you as a member of His family.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you come back soon.  Have a Happy Easter and remember it is not about the Easter Bunny hiding eggs, please remember the real reason for the celebration.

PATRIOTIC OR SENTIMENTAL

SentimentalDSC_0248

Whenever I hear The Star Spangled Banner it brings tears to my eyes.  Am I being sentimental or patriotic?

We are so blessed to live in The United States of America.  Our freedom did not come free.  No… our fathers, brothers, husbands, sisters and even mothers paid the highest price for the rights we enjoy in this country and to stand and sing that song. They paid and are still paying so we can post how we feel about our country or anything else we so choose.  We can open our Bibles and read them in public without the fear of being punished or killed or have our families tortured because we follow Jesus.  As far as that goes we have a freedom to choose any religion we care to believe in.  I hate to hear someone run down our country.  If they don’t like it they have the freedom to leave any time they want.  It is true there are faults in The United States but I will take it over any other place on earth.  I am so thankful that God let me be born and live in such a beautiful and wonderful place.

When we hear The Star Spangled Banner lets all stand and be thankful for our military and the rights they provide for us every day.  So…am I sentimental or patriotic?  I like to think I am a little of both.

Circle Dates

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year.  We got to spend Christmas with our oldest son and wonderful grandson.  Our youngest son is a minister and could not make it home this year but we keep up the hope for next year.  He is working for God and that is what’s more important.  Again our oldest son had New Year’s dinner with us.  We are so blessed that both our sons are Christians and we all have a close relationship.

Did you make any resolutions?  Did I?  I don’t know that I would call it a resolution but I do plan to work more on my manuscripts and try to continue my Creek posts.

So I will see you on the Creek later.  Stay safe and God bless.
