God is so good all the time. This morning I gathered our first mustard of the season so we will have fresh mustard for dinner tonight. I just love being able to go out in our garden and get our fresh vegetables. My little grandson loves the star apples lol. Thank God we have a few on the tree this year; more than ever before. Last year we had some but the cold ruined them. This year the tree was loaded with blooms but not all the blooms mean fruit because the tree is self-pollinating so some of the blooms are male and some female and only the female bear fruit. But we have plenty and some to share; I love to share.
Everything in the garden is looking good except… My onions are not coming up like I hoped but I will give them time. And the first carrots I planted refused to germinate so I replanted them and some more beets last week. I think with the beets, spinach and English (sweet) peas I used too much cow manure. They were all planted in the raised beds and none of them did anything. So this week (maybe Wednesday) I will plant some more pea seeds in the side garden.
Oh yeah, I didn’t tell you. In September my husband rotator tilled the side yard for me and we had six yards of garden soil brought in so I now have a garden there. I am so proud of it because I can plant a lot more. It used to be in the shade but my neighbor had her tree trimmed so now it is in full sun; love it.
I will also till up the soil in the raised beds and try to plant some more spinach. I have just never had much luck with spinach. This year I planted turnips and they are doing well; first time I’ve tried them in ages. I don’t know why because we love turnips. I just love fresh greens period. My radishes are doing well so I’ve been able to get fresh radishes for a couple of weeks now. These are a tiny bit spicy but good and crunchy. Radishes are wonderful for a snack. I’ve planted some Watermelon Radishes for the first time and they are up but not big enough to eat yet. I can’t wait to try them. I try out new and weird vegetables from time to time.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you come back soon and in the mean time have a blessed, happy life and happy gardening.

One of my favorite places to go and relax. The water is so beautiful and you can wade out a pretty long way before it gets deep. I don’t put my head under water; coward? Maybe.
Thanks for stopping by.

The word this week is a great one for me. I mean, heck, when it comes to describing weathered I could just put my picture out there (don’t worry I won’t, don’t want to scare the regulars) but it would be the epitome of the description. But it brings a question to my mind. “Does weathered mean by years or could it be by cold or heat or etc.?”
So far this year we have had the coldest weather we’ve had in several years and it definitely has taken its toll on my vegetable garden, flowers and fruit trees. The papaya trees were loaded with fruit. I suppose it only zapped the leaves on the trees and the roots are safe (positive thinking babe.) If it did get the roots as well I will just replant. I’m almost sure all I need to do to the banana trees is just cut them back to the ground and they will sprout new babies. But it is too cold to get out there and mess with anything right now.
Sooo… I should be working on the rewrites of the two novels I have perking on the back burner. Maybe perking is not the right word because I haven’t worked on them in weeks. Oh yes, I know I should and now that it is too cold to work in the garden it is a perfect time to write. Do I have writer’s block? No, I’m just plain old LAZY, can’t lie about it. I even know the finish and everything; just need a good kick in the butt to get moving. So with that said I better get busy.

Have you ever heard the saying “Stubborn as a mule?” Maybe it is just heard in the south but I’ve heard it a million times and mostly describing me. So this week I will show you some of my stubbornness with this post. Yeah…yeah I know it is supposed to be about a favorite photo from this year. Well I simply can not find a favorite. I pretty much like all of my pictures. If I don’t like them it is so easy to hit the delete button. So yes, I guess I am stubborn. I think you sort of have to be if you are an author. If you want to publish novels you must have enough faith in your work to stick with it no matter what. Right?
I have too many interest I guess and I have neglected my writing for time spent in my garden. Of course I love both and I also love photography and taking walks. So, like I said maybe too many interest.
I have two novels waiting for me to finish and what’s sad I know the finish if I would just sit my butt down and work at the computer. I should be digging in the dirt of my manuscripts instead of outside digging in the dirt literally. They are screaming to be finished and for me to move on to others. Yes there are others…well other ideas that are stewing on the back burner.
Have you decided to make a new years resolution? I will do my usual lose weight, eat healthier and get more exercise. These are three that a lot of people make every year and like me they start off strong but a nice piece of cake or chocolate temps and all the good intentions are blown away like dust in a wind storm. This year I will also add “finish the novels I have started and start sending them to publishers.” Yes, I will most definitely have to be as stubborn as a mule to do it but I plan to give it the all American try.
Please let me know if you make resolutions and if you succeed. I will keep you posted on mine. Some way I will try to incorporate all of my hobbies as well as succeed as an author.
Thank you for stopping by. Happy New Year!!

I guess we all have our on definition of what serene means to us. To me sitting quietly on a beach and watching the waves wash ashore is the epitome of serenity. But there are many other things that bring me peace and joy. I love sitting on my back porch and watching the wild birds.
And working in my garden which by the way is coming along great so far. All most all of the radishes I transplanted last week took and that makes me so happy. It was an experiment. I was not sure if one could transplant radishes but I knew I had to thin them out and I just can’t stand to throw away any plant. So now I know. And the two new rows I planted are all peeping out of the ground. One row is the same as the others that are almost ready to gather, I got one this morning, and the other row are white radishes which I have never grew or even eaten but I will now.
And every thing else is coming along. We had mustard for dinner one day last week and could gather more now but I’ll wait a few days and see if my sister-in-law wants some when she comes to our family Christmas party this weekend. The collards are also ready and I plan to have some for Christmas dinner along with the ham and other fixings (fixings is a good old southern word for what else one might cook.)
Collards
And as you can see the lettuce is almost ready to gather some for a nice salad but I’ll give it a couple more days. We’re eating out tonight but my husband doesn’t know it let. I’m just too busy to cook.
I won’t bore you with photos of all the other vegetables but I do have a few tomatoes and one bell pepper. I hope the critters don’t get my pepper again. They’ve stolen the last two before they were big enough for me to pick. I’ve put Cayenne pepper powder on them to deter the unwelcome guest. We’ll see if that works.
Thank you for stopping by please come by soon and God bless.

Morning Glories are temporary flowers but oh so pretty. They usually only last a day but I look forward to going out in the early morning and seeing them in bloom. It is a beautiful way to start the day. This year I planted several colors but all that grew seem to be the blue. Oh well, I’ll just be thankful for what I have.
My vegetables are doing well and I am so happy with them. We should have fresh mustard for dinner tomorrow. I wanted to have it tonight but I kept flagging around and I thought it was too late to gather some today. I like to gather my greens early in the morning.
mustard
The collards, onions, radishes, broccoli, cabbage all are growing nicely.
Last Friday we made cages for the tomatoes and we have several small tomatoes on the plants.
And I predict we will be able to have lettuce from our garden in a couple more weeks.
This is the first time I’ve tried to grow lettuce in containers. I researched it and they say it can be done so we shall see. All I can say is so good so far.
I also planted some red cabbage in containers last week; just to try, I never grew red cabbage before.
My hot peppers are doing great. We really don’t eat them so I will pickle them and find someone who likes spicey. They are pretty and fun to grow. The sweet peppers had a nice sized pepper but some varmint decided he needed it more than I do. I will put cayenne pepper on the plants and that should deter him. Those peppers are for my grandson so the varmint does not know who he is fooling with.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a blessed day and will come back soon.
